What began as bangle, has transformed into one of our best selling collections but did you know it came from humble roots?
Let's hand over to our King of the Road to tell you all about its beginning...
"For years we'd created two-tone snaffle jewellery and all sorts of silver and gold designs, from bracelets and earrings to pendants and necklaces. Around that time, rose gold was becoming increasingly popular and I remember thinking...we've never created the one bit that's naturally two tone. Why has nobody designed a Cherry Roller?"
"I must admit it took about a year to even work out (mechanically) how it could be done. We wanted to ensure we had proper control over the colour of the gold plating and have the ability to replate the pieces in the future, so we knew it had to be done in the UK".
"The prototype, of which ten were made, originally had beads with non rounded edges - we still see them come onto the stand occasionally, ten years after their first appearance. However, we all agreed that we needed to be true to the design of the cherry roller bit and our equestrian community - sharp edges would not be right in a youngster's mouth! So the beads were redesigned and made authentically round."
"Then once we had seen it become such a success, we expanded the range whilst ensuring we kept the collection's unique feature of interchangeable beads and personalisable design. In its own way, we had not realised what a special piece this would become as when we first launched it, there was no option for the sparkly CZ beads you see today!".
Fast forward to today, the Cherry Roller Collection is a Hiho exclusive and now home to far more than a single bangle. From necklaces and pendants, to bracelets, bangles, rings, cufflinks, earrings and even stock pins the Cherry Roller has become an iconic piece of Hiho's equestrian heritage.
But what makes this collection so special is that it isn't just for the equestrians. Whilst its story may begin in the equestrian world, today it is worn and treasured by so many non-horsey members of the Hiho community who simply fell in love with its timeless design.
For some, the rolling beads of the bit are reminders of treasured days in saddle, and for others they're simply a beautifully crafted combination of silver, gold, rose gold and CZ sparkle that works with everything.
Different stories, different meanings, special memories, all held by the same much-loved collection.
