To Replace or Re-Plate?
To replace or re-plate?

When the gold vermeil on a much-loved piece starts to wear, it can be tempting to think it’s time for a new one.

But it might just need a little TLC.

Our gold re-plating service gives your favourite Hiho pieces a fresh lease of life, and leaves them looking good as new (without the price tag of a shiny new one). So you can keep wearing the very same jewellery you’ve loved for many more years to come.

Our Common Gold Vermeil FAQs:

What is gold plating/vermeil?
Gold plating, also know as Gold Vermeil, pronounded 'ver-may', is the process of depositing a layer of gold onto the surface of silver using an electrochemical process. It's a process with specific quality standards, requiring a sterling silver base and a much thicker layer of gold to ensure a high quality finish. At Hiho, we use 18ct yellow gold and 18ct rose gold, with a 2-micron thickness, and all our gold plating is carried out here in the UK.

Why might my plating wear?
No matter the quality, all plated jewellery wears gradually over time. How quickly this happens will vary from person to person and depends on how your jewellery is worn and cared for. Pieces worn frequently or exposed to more rubbing and contact will naturally see more wear.

Can I have my Hiho piece re-plated?
Absolutely! If your gold plated jewellery has lost its shine or the plating has started to wear, we can easily organise re-plating it for you. For more information about our re-plating service, simply drop us an email or give the Hiho team a call and we’ll be happy to help
