Styling for the last few events of the season
The final shows of our summer season are on the horizon, can you believe
how quickly summer has flown by?

From Scone in Scotland, to Burghley in Norfolk, and finally Blenheim in Oxfordshire, we're looking forward to those final weekends watching top-class partnerships, shopping, catching up with friends, and of course deciding what to wear.

Horse trials are one of our favourite events to dress for - the perfect excuse to ditch the jodhpurs, but still reach for our comfiest boots and accessorise with a touch of silver.

The perfect balance, if you ask us!

Whether you're joining us at one of our final events, or simply looking for country outfit inspiration, we've asked three members of our Hiho Community for their top tips.

Today, Mathilda, Lucinda and Alex are sharing their tips for creating an outfit that is stylish, practical and feels like you, including a few Hiho pieces they wouldn't leave home without.

Take it away, Mathilda, Lucinda and Alex

💜

Mathilda's Horse Trial Tips

1. Pick your shoes first 🥾

You'll be doing a LOT of walking, especially if you're hoping to head out on a XC course. Comfortable shoes make such a difference when you're trying to get from one side of the show to the other!

2. Layers are your best friend 🧥

Weather at events like Burghley can change in minutes. It could be scorching one minute and raining the next, so make sure you're prepared for all conditions. I'd even pop a pack-away umbrella in your bag!

3. Keep your hands free 🎒

An over the shoulder/hands free bag is brilliant, it means you've got both hands free for all the shopping... 😉

My go to piece of Hiho jewellery has to be my Cherry Roller Necklace. It's such a special piece to me and I love that it looks fab with any outfit!

Alex's Horse Trial Tips

1. Cosy but breathable layers

My go to outfit for a September show is cord trousers as they're so soft, paired with a white shirt.

2. Add finishing touches with your accessories

To my outfit above, I would add a silk scarf to look smart, a baker boy hat with feathers, pack a lightweight wax jacket in case of rain, and carry a crossbody handbag to be hands free with my naughty pup - and be able to browse properly.

3. Comfortable boots are a must

With the weather we've had over the last few days, I'd pick my trusty Le Chameau Wellies as it may be a little wet underfoot.

Jewellery wise, it would have to be my new Cowboy Boot Necklace and matching earrings set. Plus my favourite bracelets and rings which include the most stunning horseshoe design.

Lucinda's Horse Trial Tips

1. The Rule of Three 💜

If you're looking to add some colour to a neutral outfit, pick a colour and then repeat it three times across your outfit. Aim for balance - for example a fedora, belt and bag helps to spread the colour across your outfit.

2. Layers! 👚

September is starting to edge into those cooler months, where the mornings can be chilly but it warms up again. Opting for layering pieces means you can wear what you need, a gilet is great for this. Don't forget to pack a lightweight rain coat in the car too - just in case!

3. Footwear 👢

Comfort is key!! Horse trials are not the place to breaking in new shoes, especially if you're heading out to see some of the cross-country action. Opt for comfortable leather or suede boots if the weather is cooler, or loafers/deck shoes if it's warmer.

My go to Hiho pieces for September outfits has to be a Cherry Roller Snaffle Necklaces and the new Cowboy Boot Stud Earrings.

Thank you so much Mathilda, Alex and Lucinda for your fantastic tips for our last month of choosing horse trial outfits. It's safe to say, comfortable footwear and lots of layers are the key lessons!

Across late August and September you can find us at the following events...

Scone International Horse Trials, 27th - 30th August, Avenue A

Defender Burghley Horse Trials, 3rd - 6th September, Avenue A West

Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials, 17th - 20th September, Stand A043

We can't wait to see you there!
