Meet the Team: Rachel Collins
Meet Rachel...

Rachel is one of our amazing brand photographers and,
whilst she works with a number of wonderful clients, she’s very much part of Team Hiho.

For many years now, her photography has played a key role in how our collections and the Hiho way of life are seen and understood.

With an eye for detail and a natural feel for light, texture, and movement,
Rachel captures images that sit effortlessly within the world of Hiho.

From product shots to behind the scenes snippets, her work reflects the heritage, craftsmanship, and countryside life at the heart of Hiho.

Get to Know Rachel

Rachel, please tell us what your role is at Hiho and how long you have worked for us?
I’m one of the freelance photographers used by Hiho, so not actually directly employed. I’d been a fan of the brand long before I worked for them, to be asked to photograph the products was a bit of a dream come true. I feel very much part of the team despite being self-employed and can often be found involved with other projects with the Brand. I’ve just had a bit of a shock as looking back through my records my first shoot for Hiho was in the Autumn of 2017.  Time flies!

Where in the UK are you based and what do you love most about living there?
I’m in Somerset, although I originate from rural Bedfordshire. I’ve lived in many wonderful English counties since leaving home about 30 years ago, but I’ve been here in Somerset for almost 10 years with no intention whatsoever of leaving!  I’m in a nice little village a few miles outside the town of Chard. It’s bliss, we’ve got picture perfect rolling countryside around us, church bells that peel on Friday nights, a village shop, farmland, tractors, mud, lost sheep, horses in the lanes and chatty villagers who welcome you daily.  The hills and valleys provide fitness for me and great moments of wonder, particularly when the mist hangs in the valley.

What part of your work do you enjoy the most day to day?
I treasure the fact that in some small way my photography is helping people decide on their next purchase, purely by seeing the jewellery shown in such a way they find it relatable and entirely enticing to go that step further and purchase something.

What is your go to piece of Hiho for any occasion?
I’ve worn the Exclusive Sterling Silver Riding Whip Bangle for years now, it’s rarely not on my right wrist, so it feels very much part of me. It’s seen high days and low days with me. It’s a piece that has withstood the daily battering of life in the country with dogs, horses, mud and muck can bring!

What does a perfect Sunday in the countryside look like to you?

Both my husband and I (he’s a saddler) compete horses, although I’m currently down to just my retired horse and a very new addition - Percy, a rising 5 year old grey ISH! So, I’m going to be controversial and say I have 2 variations on the perfect Sunday, but I'll go with version that doesn't include a competition!
It’s a slightly lazy start to the day, our horses live out basically 24-7 these days, so the pressure is off in terms of mucking stables out and turning them out before dawn has arrived! We’ll head to our yard, check horses and carry out the usual duties then we’ll either take our 2 Lurchers for a long walk from the yard or head off somewhere else. Home for a light lunch, collapse with a Sunday film (where secretly we both snooze on and off, inevitably missing vital parts of the story), back to the horses and then a delicious supper thanks to the AGA in the evening, often with family or friends coming over. We love a game of cards or board games in the winter too.

What's one countryside tradition you love and would never give up?

Not sure it’s a tradition as such, but the village shop is the heart of any rural community. The life blood of what’s happening around us and they are, sadly, a dying part of the countryside. I love it when I hear about villages who have really pulled together and operate some kind of community owned and run store.

You're in a bakery, they have every single yummy item you could dream of - what are you choosing?

Milk chocolate Florentine please. Many moons ago I went to school in Bedfordshire with the son of a baker. At the age of 10 I was utterly ‘ruined’ by the Florentines his dad used to make, and no-one has come close since despite my rigorous testing!!
