Hiho Silver: For the Love of the Horse

Hiho Silver: For the Love of the Horse
Over on our socials this week, we've been exploring all things equestrian 🐴

We've had a think about what our horses teach us, what it means to be an equestrian, and of course had a look at some of our beautiful equestrian inspired pieces.

As you know, horses really are at the heart of Hiho, and we have loved exploring what they mean to you, and us, over the past week but our favourite part has been taking moment to pause, ponder and reflect on just what these incredible creatures can teach.

So on this wonderful Sunday, why not take a moment with us to do the same?

Let's ponder together on the wonderful animal that is the horse...

What do horses teach us?

When you’re lucky enough to be around horses daily, as you go about your usual yard jobs, it can be easy to forget just how much they give us beyond the obvious...

Our horses teach us to:

Find patience in the moments we need it most, be they big or small.
Nothing happens overnight; good things take time, consistency and effort.

Communicate differently.
To listen, to observe, and to understand without a shared language.
We must learn theirs, listen, read their cues and meet them where they are, not where we expect them to be.

Shift our perspective.
They don’t measure success as we do. They don’t mind if they didn't win that showjumping round, or if the horse in the warm up ring was watching them. They simply know they had fun, are safe and loved with their human, and that is enough for them.

Find humour.
Our horses teach us to smile in the everyday moments, a muddy nudge at the wrong time, a feed bucket fling once breakfast is finished.
Moments like this, ones where the small things make us giggle, they become the most precious memories.

Give and receive unconditional love.
They don’t ask for all the money in the world to be spent on them (ok well maybe in the form of vet bills…!) but they do ask for our time, our care and our hearts.
In return they give us their's, a type of bond that can’t be bought, only earned.

To slow down, and pause a while.
In our world it can feel non-stop, we always have somewhere to be and something to do but it's not like this in our horses world.
They take the time to pause, stare into the distance, take a deep breath and rest a hind hoof.

Maybe we should try joining them for a moment?
