HIHO SUPPORT RAISES THOUSANDS FOR HELP FOR HEROES

Somerset based jewellery company Hiho has raised over £7,700 for Help for Heroes in just six months through sales of its specially designed ‘Heroes’ range. The bracelets, necklaces and earrings have been a big hit with customers both online and in-store, with twenty per cent of all proceeds from sales of the collection being donated to the charity.

Hiho’s relationship with Help for Heroes was established towards the end of 2009 following the death of British bomb disposal expert Olaf Schmid, as explained by Hiho Managing Director Andrew Ransford.

"After hearing the news about yet another young British soldier dying in Afghanistan, we started talking about how we might be able to find a way to support the courageous British troops who risk their lives on a daily basis. Getting involved with Help for Heroes was perfect as they raise money to help those wounded in the current conflicts."

Once the plans to support Help for Heroes had been decided upon, a meeting was set up between Hiho and the people who founded the charity, Bryn and Emma Parry. To everyone’s surprise, they already knew each other as the couple’s previous business had been located opposite Hiho at trade shows for years!

However, as Andrew Ransford explains, Hiho’s relationship with Help for Heroes runs much deeper than simply donating a percentage from the ‘Heroes’ jewellery sales. "Many of us here at Hiho have military connections and it’s something that we all feel very strongly about. As a team, we throw ourselves into a host of sponsored activities and events whenever we can. We are proud to support such a fantastic and worthy cause."

Hiho’s latest fundraising endeavour for Help for Heroes saw the team take part in the Dragon Boat race at Sherborne Castle, where they raised almost £1,000 for Help for Heroes and the Piers Simon Appeal. The Hiho team performed surprisingly well, winning two out of three races despite never having rowed before!

The funds raised for Help for Heroes from the Dragon Boat race add significantly to those already accrued from Hiho’s ‘Heroes’ jewellery range and numerous other endeavours, including a successful cycle ride from London to Paris at the end of last year. Completed by Hiho Shows Coordinator Belinda Quinn and four friends, this sponsored cycle alone raised £2,600 for the charity, bringing the total raised by Hiho for Help for Heroes in recent months to in excess of £10,000.

Richard Lupton, County Co-ordinator, Somerset for Help for Heroes, is full of praise for what Hiho has achieved. "To have raised over £10,000 is an outstanding achievement – thank you to all at Hiho. I first met them at their Christmas Dinner late last year; what struck me was what an enthusiastic and dynamic bunch they were. So I’m not surprised they have thrown themselves into raising money for Help for Heroes, and the jewellery is beautiful. I recommend it to everyone – my wife loves hers! But most importantly, what they have done will make such a difference to the wounded servicemen and women I know they care so deeply about."

In true Hiho style, the next fundraising idea for Help for Heroes is already in the pipeline, so look out for news about a stylish new addition to the ‘Heroes’ range – coming soon!
